Future Services

Muslims have made northern California their home since the 19th century when the first Muslims arrived here as farmers in the late 1800s. Today, there are an estimated 300,000 Muslims in the greater San Francisco Bay Area alone representing an ethnically diverse and economically vibrant community that is an integral and productive part of the society at large.

While the Muslims in the Bay Area have established many mosques in our local communities, we have not placed the same emphasis on the social and intellectual needs of our community, particularly those of young adults and the seniors within our ranks. At the Cordoba Center, we have placed a great emphasis in our charter to serve these two fast growing and important age groups of our community.

Muslim Senior Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing Facility

An entire generation of Muslim immigrants who arrived here in the 1960s and '70s as well as the indigenous Muslim "baby boomers" are now reaching their retirement age. Unfortunately there are no facilities today in northern California that are purpose built or equipped to serve the specific residential needs of retiring Muslim American seniors. At the Cordoba Center we have plans to build a comprehensive facility specifically oriented to the needs of Muslim seniors. This will include both assisted living units for individuals and couples, as well as a certified skilled nursing facility for those requiring 24x7 care.

Muslim High School / College Preparatory (Grades 9-12)

Children are the essential DNA that shapes the structure and character of any society. Unfortunately, our children are losing touch with their Muslim heritage. In particular, our teenagers are in dire need of institutions where alongside traditional education they can learn about Islamic history, its vast civilization, rich heritage and invaluable contribution to the world. A proposed college preparatory (grades 9-12) at the Cordoba Center would offer a state accredited curriculum, in addition to courses in Islamic studies, in a highly competitive and disciplined environment. Our goal is to develop the necessary skill set in our young adults, equip them with the critical tools and provide them the opportunity to excel not only in their individual careers as productive members of the society but also to be the leaders of their communities and their representatives atthe national level.

Cultural and Community Center

Strong family values and community building are among the core concepts in Islam. Hence the community hall at the Cordoba Center will be the focal point of the community outreach and social activities.
